Sarah and Sam called me from Denver last Thursday and asked if I would photograph their wedding in Maui on Wednesday. It took me a millisecond to make the obvious decision: who could pass up mid-week nuptials in Maui?! When I met Sarah and Sam in their hotel room, they were getting ready together: Sam zipped up Sarah's dress, Sarah rolled back his cuffs, their children's photos were taped to the dressing room mirror and the smell of tuberose was everywhere. This was a thing of beauty and it was only the beginning. Thank you, Sarah and Sam, for inviting me, a total stranger, to your intimate wedding and for making me a witness! (I won't let you down!) Here's a little favorite with more to come soon. And, by the way, it was my best over-the-hump day ever!

Nicole, Charlie and I spent some time strolling around the beautiful grounds of Montalvo on Thursday. It was a classic autumn day and I can't wait for their romantic wedding the weekend after Thanksgiving!

I used to live in Breckenridge, CO and even though winter was about 9 months of the year, I loved it. Having Tahoe only 3 1/2 hours away is such a treat, especially in the winter. Tahoe's peaks look so much like the ones that were outside my Colorado kitchen window and the crisp, clear air makes me feel at peace. California continues to amaze me. This, the ocean, desert and redwoods in the same state? I am so grateful. :-)

politics and babies

No matter what your political views, this Tuesday was a historic day in US history. (The November 5th issue of the New York Times is going for 50x its worth on ebay.) After voting, Chris and I opened our house to some election fervor and fun. Politics and babies really go hand-in-hand, don't they?

It was great to see Katie & Erik again since we had such a great time this summer at their engagement session in Capitola. Their wedding was so personal and touching, I think everyone cried at least twice. This was the type of wedding that was so beautifully honest, loving and raw that you would get chills every five minutes--it was great! :-) I was so honored to be there. Thanks so much, Katie & Erik! You know "the look" of love that makes us weak in the knees? The exchange between two people that is so undeniable, so gorgeous, squeezable yet passionate and utterly pure? Ahhhh, I love that look and love photographing it even more! Libby & Marc, the adorable favors that never made it to the tables were not necessary because every single guest took home so much more than what was wrapped up for them. Smooch!

A Practical Wedding is a beautiful wedding site/utopia full of ideas, inspiration, creativity and lovely sanity.:-) I was so thrilled when they told me they wanted to feature Tiffany & Ethan's gorgeous Corralitos wedding. Tiffany and Ethan are beautiful, genuine people and they had the most incredible and stylish details sprinkled throughout their wedding day; it was a feast for the eyes--and their local & organic picnic lunches were delectable as well. This December I'm going to play in the snow a little longer by spending a few weeks in Upstate New York and Vermont. Lindsay & Michael are getting married this January at the beautiful Casa Real & I can't wait for what I know will be a beautiful, fun and meaningful day. (And maybe some jokes, Michael??) I fell in love with Couture Books the first time I laid my eyes on them and they just get better and better as you get to know them. :-) Couture Books are designed to be similar to museum art books. They are printed on gorgeous paper that begs you to flip through--they are so engaging & different. Couture also created the first line of green albums--eco books made with post-consumer recycled products. And they donate a portion of all purchases to the cause of your choice. I adore them.

There are so many bonuses to living in the Bay Area: ocean, mountains, diversity, environmentalism, progress...and it's a foodie's dream! Two incredible cupcake bakeries: Sprinkles & Kara's justed opened up in Palo Alto and I'm in heavvven!! It's like a dream come true-- I'm not kidding you. I gladly waited in line at Sprinkles for one full hour to taste the intensity...and then dashed to Kara's for the ultimate, side-by-side taste test. The household conclusion: Kara's: 1, Sprinkles: 1. I'm thinking the Lemon Cupcake will break the tie, which according to Sprinkle's handy Cupcake Chart, is available Mon/Thu/Sun. (Yumm...that's tomorrow...)

While in Colorado this summer, I attended Zack Aria's marathon workshop OneLight. We headed out to some beautiful fields in the late afternoon to play with flash on incredible models like Shannon Kaple (who just told me she is expecting a baby!!). Shannon was a dream and even crawled inside a rotten tree stump in her dress and heels for some shots. I love her--she's my kind of girl.
